Explore the medium of oil paints whilst learning how to create the impression of depth in the landscapes that you paint.
In this workshop we will cover a variety of techniques to explore colour, values and mark making. We will look at the way in which the human eye interprets a landscape, and you will learn how scale, perspective, composition and tone can be used to create the illusion of depth on a flat surface.
This workshop is perfect for adult beginners and improvers who are interested in exploring oil painting and developing their skills in landscape painting. Whether you’re completely new to oil painting or looking to build on previous experience, this course offers valuable instruction in a supportive and inspiring environment.
Mark Making Techniques: Experiment with various mark-making techniques to add texture and movement to your paintings.
Interpreting the Landscape: Study how the eye interprets natural landscapes, using this understanding to enhance your compositions.
Scale, Perspective, and Composition: Gain an understanding of how to use scale, perspective, and composition to create balanced and dynamic landscapes.
Creating Depth with Tone: Discover how tone can be used to create the illusion of depth, giving your paintings a sense of space and realism.
All materials provided
Suitable for ages 16+
Tea, coffee and cake will be available throughout the evening.
No experience necessary. This workshop is perfect for beginners.
Please bring old clothes or an apron - painting can get messy!
Long stay parking is available a short walk from the studio (Court Street Car Park: Parking charges apply)

Textiles Illustration

Textiles is a versatile medium, great for creating artwork as well as embellishing home furnishings and clothing. In this workshop you will learn to use appliqué, basic embroidery stitches and beading to create your own decorative fabric cupcake illustration.

Pointillism in Acrylics

Pointillism is defined by its use of mark making and colour. Pointillism paintings are created from hundreds of dots of carefully placed pure colours, relying on the eye to mix the colours to achieve maximum luminosity, in a similar way to pixels on a screen.
Learn how to use reds, blues and yellows to create the whole spectrum of colours. In this workshop we will look at basic colour theory, pigment strength and colour mixing before going on to create a colourful acrylic painting to take away with you.

Get started with Oil Paints

Starting out with Oils can be a daunting prospect, but with just a few basics you can unlock the potential of this rich and exciting medium.
In this beginners workshop we will be getting to grips with oil painting. You will gain understanding of the paints, learn about colour mixing and basic application techniques, and receive step-by-step guidance in creating your own still life painting.

Mastering Reflections | Large Scale Charcoal Drawing

In this workshop we will be getting messy with large-scale charcoal drawings.
Working at A1 in scale we will be looking at reflection and the refraction of light on glass as well studying the way in which glass objects interact with positive and negative space.
