Explore the expressive world of watercolours in this engaging workshop at Cockington Court. Suitable for complete beginners, this course delves into the fundamentals of watercolour painting, from understanding paintbrushes and papers to mastering the properties of watercolours.
You’ll be introduced to a variety of techniques essential to creating captivating abstract forms and patterns. We’ll cover techniques such as glazing for layering colours, masking to preserve whites, washes to create translucent effects and blends, bleeds for soft transitions, and both wet-on-wet and wet-on-dry methods to control paint flow.
We’ll also experiment with a range of techniques to add texture to your paintings, creating various watery effects.
Throughout the workshop, you’ll work through a series of guided tasks to familiarise yourself with these techniques. By the end of the day, you’ll have the confidence and skills to create your own watercolour abstract forms or patterns, infused with your unique style and creativity.

Suitable for ages 16+
Refreshments will be available throughout the day but lunch is not provided. There is a cafe on site, and The Drum pub is within a short walk from the studio, or feel free to bring a packed lunch.
No experience necessary. This workshop is perfect for beginners.
Please bring old clothes or an apron - painting can get messy!
Long stay parking is available a short walk from the studio (Craft Centre Car Park: Open 7am – 7pm, parking charges apply), and the number 62 Torquay to Cockington bus stops at Cockington Village.
