Perfect for beginners and those wanting to experiment, this workshop is a chance to get stuck in and try something new. You’ll learn how acrylics behave, how to build texture, and how to use special mediums like texture paste and crackle gel to add interest and dimension to your work.
Whether you’re brand new to acrylics or just want to loosen up and try some new tricks, this day is all about discovering what’s possible.
Texture Techniques: using mediums to add depth and surface interest
Crackle Effects & more: experimenting with creative materials
Scale: working on a larger scale without feeling overwhelmed
Colour Choices: exploring colour schemes and what they can do for your painting
Creative Freedom: finding your own approach in a relaxed, supportive setting

Suitable for ages 16+
Refreshments will be available throughout the afternoon but lunch is not provided. There is a cafe on site, and The Drum pub is within a short walk from the studio, or feel free to bring a packed lunch.
No experience necessary. This workshop is perfect for beginners.
Please bring old clothes or an apron - painting can get messy!
Long stay parking is available a short walk from the studio (Craft Centre Car Park: Open 7am – 7pm, parking charges apply, please bring cash)

Textiles Illustration

Textiles is a versatile medium, great for creating artwork as well as embellishing home furnishings and clothing. In this workshop you will learn to use appliqué, basic embroidery stitches and beading to create your own decorative fabric cupcake illustration.

Pointillism in Acrylics

Pointillism is defined by its use of mark making and colour. Pointillism paintings are created from hundreds of dots of carefully placed pure colours, relying on the eye to mix the colours to achieve maximum luminosity, in a similar way to pixels on a screen.
Learn how to use reds, blues and yellows to create the whole spectrum of colours. In this workshop we will look at basic colour theory, pigment strength and colour mixing before going on to create a colourful acrylic painting to take away with you.

Get started with Oil Paints

Starting out with Oils can be a daunting prospect, but with just a few basics you can unlock the potential of this rich and exciting medium.
In this beginners workshop we will be getting to grips with oil painting. You will gain understanding of the paints, learn about colour mixing and basic application techniques, and receive step-by-step guidance in creating your own still life painting.

Mastering Reflections | Large Scale Charcoal Drawing

In this workshop we will be getting messy with large-scale charcoal drawings.
Working at A1 in scale we will be looking at reflection and the refraction of light on glass as well studying the way in which glass objects interact with positive and negative space.
