In this workshop, we’ll approach painting in two distinct layers. First, we’ll use a bokeh technique to achieve a soft-focus background creating a sense of depth. Then, we’ll build up the foreground with palette knives and texture mediums, adding tactile richness to our compositions.
For those new to acrylics, we’ll cover the basics—from colour mixing and application techniques to the properties of the medium. You’ll learn how to handle acrylic paints effectively and explore different ways to create texture and visual interest in your artwork.
Whether you’re starting from scratch or looking to enhance your skills, this workshop offers a supportive environment to unleash your creativity and explore the versatile nature of acrylics.
Palette Knife Skills: Explore the use of palette knives to apply paint, using a range of expressive marks to create texture.
Texture Mediums: Experiment with texture mediums to create impasto effects and enhance the tactile qualities of your paintings.
Acrylic Basics: Beginners will gain a solid foundation in acrylic painting techniques, including colour mixing, brushwork, and surface preparation.
Hands-on Guidance: Receive step-by-step instruction and personalised guidance throughout the workshop.
All Materials Provided: All paints, brushes, palette knives, and texture mediums will be provided. Just bring your enthusiasm and creativity!

Suitable for ages 16+
Refreshments will be available throughout the afternoon but lunch is not provided. There is a cafe on site, and The Drum pub is within a short walk from the studio, or feel free to bring a packed lunch.
No experience necessary. This workshop is perfect for beginners.
Please bring old clothes or an apron - painting can get messy!
Long stay parking is available a short walk from the studio (Craft Centre Car Park: Open 7am – 7pm, parking charges apply)

Textiles is a versatile medium, great for creating artwork as well as embellishing home furnishings and clothing. In this workshop you will learn to use appliqué, basic embroidery stitches and beading to create your own decorative fabric cupcake illustration.

Pointillism in Acrylics

Pointillism is defined by its use of mark making and colour. Pointillism paintings are created from hundreds of dots of carefully placed pure colours, relying on the eye to mix the colours to achieve maximum luminosity, in a similar way to pixels on a screen.
Learn how to use reds, blues and yellows to create the whole spectrum of colours. In this workshop we will look at basic colour theory, pigment strength and colour mixing before going on to create a colourful acrylic painting to take away with you.

Get started with Oil Paints

Starting out with Oils can be a daunting prospect, but with just a few basics you can unlock the potential of this rich and exciting medium.
In this beginners workshop we will be getting to grips with oil painting. You will gain understanding of the paints, learn about colour mixing and basic application techniques, and receive step-by-step guidance in creating your own still life painting.

Mastering Reflections | Large Scale Charcoal Drawing

In this workshop we will be getting messy with large-scale charcoal drawings.
Working at A1 in scale we will be looking at reflection and the refraction of light on glass as well studying the way in which glass objects interact with positive and negative space.
